I was very pleased to attend the inaugural town assembly for Weymouth Town Council with our new Mayor Graham Winter presiding.
The town clerk Jane Biscombe gave an illuminating and comprehensive report on all the facilities our new Town Council are responsible for - parks and gardens, public conveniences, and of course the beach.
For which we've received national recognition with Blue Green and Purple Flags.
All this requires dedicated staff and money!
So for all those who think that the council wastes money, or doesn't use it wisely, think again - it was certainly an eye-opener for me, and I look forward to future meetings of the Town Council to see where our money is spent.
We are so lucky living here - with our amazing first class beach, beautiful and well-run Lorton Meadows Nature Reserve, and of course our RSPB - all we need now is more well-paid jobs for our young people, fewer second (luxury homes) and much more affordable and social housing.
So lets give Weymouth Town council a chance to function before we rush to the comment section with our, albeit, entertaining negative comments.
