DUCHY TO CHECK HOMES

I doubt there has been a true "local" style anywhere in the country since architects started studying at college/university. Even the same faults get perpetuated. Dorset Guy

I did drive around the new bits of the estate the other day for the first time.

Far from a rural village setting, I remarked to my wife that to me it more resembled what would become the city slums, just after they were built.

Narrow streets with no proper markings, big tall "terraced" buildings facing each other with no view, no proper greenary or gardens.

All in all it brings to mind the overcrowded inner city streets. A jewel waiting to develop.

At the moment it is just the high prices that are keeping it OK, but as time marches on, it is not going to be nice! Yellowcave

So much thinking going into "the perfect city" that they forgot that cars exist, and cars need parking... so now, the Duchy is worried about the changes done without authorization. I wonder if they are worried by the fact that they won't be able to see any changes with so many cars blocking the view... Why on earth couldn't they plan some underground parking? It is I, Leclerc

The aesthetics of some of rhe buildings aside, much of the criticism could be aimed at pretty much any new development in the country. Over-priced - there is a premium on all new builds. Poor quality- surveys suggest over 60% of new home owners through the country are unhappy. Small plots/gardens- point me in the direction of any sizeable development where that isn't the case. Luckily for those who don't want to live there, other areas and estates are available. For the hosting association tenants that don't like it there, they can apply to move to some of the significant amount of new social housing built in Weymouth over the last decade. Oh, hang though..... Rocksalt

I would HATE to live up there! Buy your own house except it's not your own as you get checked up on! I'm sure I read earlier you can't even hang washing out! What's that all about? No sky dishes either. Seaside sally

Am I the only person who thinks Poundbury is a beautiful place?

I am very happy to live here. DorchesterLady
