This year’s carnival princess has now been crowned.

Following a close competition, 14-year-old Kaitlyn Wellman of Shipton Gorge will be Bridport Carnival’s princess. She will be supported by 10-year-old Elsie Hannam of Puncknowle and eight-year-old Lily Tancock of Burton Bradstock.

The judges were the Rev’d Pete Stone, Teresa Grinter and Julie Harris, who observed all the entrants during the competition on June 2 at the Ivy House Restaurant at Groves Nurseries, where they enjoyed a fun afternoon, following instruction from the judges and dancing.

After talking to each of the girls, the judges had the unenviable task of choosing the winners, who will be appearing at the carnival on Saturday, August 17 and the torchlight procession from Bridport to West Bay on Sunday, August 18.

A member of the Bridport Carnival Committee said: “Thanks to all who took part, the Ivy House for the use of their beautiful restaurant, Mystic Signs for making the sashes, Teresa Grinter for supplying the music and all the judges.”
