More than 40 independent businesses are offering customers a range of great deals for £5, from cocktails, meals and cream teas to cinema tickets, cosmetics and clothes.

The Totally Locally Fiver Fest will be hitting Bridport on Saturday, a campaign encouraging people to spend £5 a week in a local business rather than online or in a big supermarket.

Until June 15, local businesses will be offering a range of different £5 offers, discounts and deals.

The national event was thought up by Chris Sands to celebrate the range of independent shops and businesses in the UK and what a big contribution they make to the British economy.

Antonia Squire, on the Fiver Fest organisers, said: “Kim Squirrell [an organiser of the event] had already been floating the idea of Totally Locally for Bridport and I had heard great things from other independent booksellers around the country, so when I saw the national campaign for Fiver Fest, I thought it would be a great place to start.

“A few of us got together and just decided to go for it. We got the word out to the independent business community as fast as we could and the response from them has been fantastic.”

Businesses taking part in the week-long campaign include florists, cafes, a bar and micro-pub, market stalls, clothing stores, butchers, bookshops, a jewellers and cinema, health food shops, artists and makers at St Michael’s Trading Estate, the Tourist Information Centre and so many more.

A list of participating businesses and the £5 deals they are offering is available throughout the town.

Kim said: “Bridport isn’t a fully-fledged Totally locally town yet. We are keen to get the ball rolling but it will take all of us working together to follow through.”
