Weymouth has come around middle of the table in a ranking of the UK's seaside resorts.

Which? asked its members to rate the beach, attractions, seafront and scenery for nearly 100 seaside towns and villages to find out which is best for a beach break or a day out.

Weymouth had a total score of 68 out of 100 and received four out of five stars for the beach and accommodation but three stars for attractions, scenery, peace and quiet and value for money. The average hotel rate is said to be £95.

The resort came 58th in the list of 96 resorts.

The top Dorset resort in the table was Swanage which scored 76 out of 100 and was placed 23rd in the list.

Next was Lyme Regis which scored 75 out of 100 and was placed 26th.

Bournemouth scored 73 per cent (38th place) and Poole which scored 66 (63rd place).

The top five resorts were Bamburgh in Northumberland, Portmeirion in Gwynedd, Dartmouth in Devon, North Berwick in East Lothian, and St Mawes in Cornwall.

The worst five were Clacton-on-Sea in Essex, Bognor Regis in West Sussex, Burnham-on-Sea in Somerset and Fleetwood in Lancashire.
