An application to demolish an existing bungalow and build two new homes on the site at 4 West Street, Chickerell has been withdrawn.
The current building is a Wollaway 'prefab' bungalow which is said to be in a poor state and suffering from concrete cancer. The withdrawn application was to replace it with a home said to be of barn-like appearance with an adjoining cottage.
The site is the only one of surrounding properties not to be included in the local conservation area.
Most comments on the application had been to support it although a Dorset Council conservation officer was opposed to the plan: “The proposed design fails to make up for any heritage asset loss and therefore the proposal as submitted cannot be supported. Furthermore the loss of green space being a "front" garden would also be a loss to the heritage asset within the street scene context and views generally.”
