A closed Chinese takeaway in Weymouth may be turned into housing if plans are approved by councillors.

An application to change the use of Wok Express, in Park Street, from a hot food takeaway into a residential building is being considered.

Currently, the upper floors consist of accommodation while the takeaway restaurant, which has ceased trading, is on the bottom floor.

Plans to turn the whole property into one house have been submitted to Dorset Council.

A design, access and heritage statement submitted on behalf of applicant Glenn Gallery, says there is "evidence of decay and neglect of the property," and the plans would "enable the whole property to function as a single residential unit."

No additional accommodation units have been proposed.

Comments will remain open on the application until July 2.
