Children and young people in Dorset who are struggling with their mental health can get support from a new online help and advice forum.

Dorset Healthcare has launched a new website offering advice and information for young people with mental health issues in the county, as well as their relatives or carers.

The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service (CAMHS) site has been produced by the NHS trust, which provides all mental health services in Dorset, and designed in partnership with young service users and their families.

It replaces the old 'Where's Your Head At?' site, and aims to provide a one-stop-shop for anyone needing help and advice with stress, anxiety, eating disorders and other mental health issues.

Its producers say the site is "much easier to use and navigate, is mobile friendly and features a lot more content." It also includes videos developed by people with experience of these problems.

Stuart Lynch, CAMHS manager at Dorset HealthCare, said: "We would like to thank all the young people who contributed their time and experience to the development of this project.

"Their guidance and feedback made all the difference. Hopefully we will see the website develop and grow as we receive further feedback from the children, young people, parents and carers who use it.”

As well as signposting young people to the support they might need, there are also sections aimed at parents and carers, as well as health and social care professionals (including how to make a referral to CAMHS), plus details of what the service can provide.

A feedback form also means people can give their views about the site and how it could be improved.

Local GPs, schools, charities and support groups have been helping to spread the word about the site, which has had more than 7,000 visits in its first few weeks.
