Earlier this week we reported how

residents will have another chance to give their views on proposals for 540 homes

and a school in Chickerell – ahead of a planning application being submitted.

Here's what readers thought.

Overdeveloping a lovely area. Killing the village atmosphere. Welcome to England. Trollied

I think, rural Dorset is being ruined. 'Our green and pleasant land'. You must be joking. This is merely my comment

Large areas of communal open space at the expense of large gardens for kids to play safely? rjimmer

I thinks its about time the western side of Dorset is built up to the same density as the east, like B'mouth & Poole etc.

That way the congestion and over population gets spread out more fairly. Vitrocell

Build new main road infrastructure which is needed to cope with all the traffic that this and other development will create. Soon there will be a new road going off Lanehouse Rocks hill to cater for 100's of houses, existing road network cannot cope! The wise old owl

So, it's all well and good building homes because we have a housing shortage.

All the children that move in will need to go to school, currently we have a school that's not big enough for the number of children that already attend. They have got land for the "provision of a primary school", just like they had a provision for shops and a doctors in phase one.

Every single resident in the 540 homes will need to be registered at a doctors surgery with a GP. Currently, we have a tiny doctors surgery that was built to serve Chickerell village, when it was small.

The nearest convenience store is a small dark little shop that's about a 15/20 minute walk from some areas of this estate and with a price rise on the bus service, that rarely turns up, it's only going to encourage people to join the congested roads.

They must build the amenities to go with the houses. ChickTerra

Seems like a pretty good plan to expand the town of Chickerell (perhaps they now may wish they hadn't pushed to upgrade from a village).. It's got very good road links linking directly onto relief road, so it's not going to put undue strain on the road network. It's also got a new school and existing schools in the area.
