RE the letter from Tony Mason in Friday’s Echo.

He may not want a free licence, bus pass or fuel allowance that’s his choice.

I would like to draw his attention to numerous people who do not get the magic pension credit. I am one of them.

I have always worked and get the state pension and a small works pension.

I like others am just over the amount required to get any help.

It doesn’t mean you are rich! You have to pay full price for the community charge, glasses, teeth etc. These benefits are worth a great deal. Why penalize those who could benefit from a free licence?

If Mr Mason feels he doesn’t want anything free he can take it as required then donate the sum to a charity such as the food bank.
