A STRANDED kite surfer was rescued yesterday after losing his kite.

Coastguards were called and the lifeboat was launched to assist a kite surfer who was stranded half a mile from Bowleaze Cove in Weymouth.

A spokesman from Weymouth Lifeboat said: “The Coastguard had received several 999 calls from the public about the stranded surfer.

“Once on scene he was taken into the lifeboat and transferred to Bowleaze Cove where they were met by the Coastguard team from Wyke. They then returned him to his car at Overcombe.

“With the surfer safely ashore, the lifeboat was released and returned to station and made ready for the next shout.”

The RNLI has issued a warning following the incident.

A spokesman said: “Remember if you see any one in trouble on the sea do the same as those members of the public did and ring 999 and ask for the Coastguard and pass on as much information as you can about what is wrong and where it is.”

Both Wyke Regis Coastguard Rescue Team and Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team were called to incident.

The team from Portland helped the kite surfer after he returned to the shore.

He was given a lift to his vehicle which was parked at Overcombe.
