Residents are invited to an official flag raising ceremony to commemorate Armed Forces Day.

Weymouth Town Council will be hosting a flag raising ceremony as part of the national 'Fly a Flag for our Armed Forces' at the council offices, Commercial Road on Monday, June 24 at 10.30am.

Weymouth Town Council Mayor Cllr Graham Winter will lead the flag raising ceremony, joined by representatives from local armed forces and veterans associations, standard bearers, the Military Vehicle Trust and council staff.

Cllr Winter said: “The town council is proud to organise and deliver many civic events throughout the year to support many important national commemorations. These events also reinforce our strong historical and present links with many veterans associations and armed forces. This flag raising ceremony is another important symbol of our appreciation.”

The Ministry of Defence is inviting all communities across the UK to be involved and inviting all local authorities to join in by simultaneously 'flying the flag' at 10.30am on Monday, June 24.

It is hoped that the ceremony will be repeated across the country and that the flags will be flown until after Armed Forces Day on Saturday, June 29.
