EMERGENCY services cordoned off a Bournemouth property after a man armed with a knife and a nail gun made threats to damage a gas pipe.

Police and fire crews taped off an address in Frost Road, West Howe, after being alerted at 9.48am today.

Road closures were also put in place and people were evacuated from a number of nearby properties.

A spokesman for Dorset Police said there were no reports of anyone else inside the address but said the cordon was put in place to allow specialist officers to deal with the situation and make enquiries while keeping the public safe.

He added: "Neighbouring properties were evacuated as a precaution and road closures were also put in place. The gas network and fire service were contacted and the ambulance service attended."

A man was detained at 11.35am and given appropriate medical care.
