A mum of two is taking on a challenge to celebrate the life of her dad - Portland legend John 'Butch' Nash.

Popular Mr Nash, founder of Portland Stone Ltd, sadly passed away in 2011 following a three-year battle with lung cancer.

Now his daughter Natalie Nash, 36, is heading off to trek the Canadian Rockies on June 22 to raise money for Marie Curie in his memory. She has already smashed her £3000 target - netting £3,984.00 so far.

Ms Nash is following in her father's footsteps - he donated thousands to local charities during his lifetime, including the Dorset Echo Christmas Toy Appeal.

The former borough and town councillor sadly passed away when Natalie was three months pregnant.

Natalie said: "My dad was such a big character - he was full of life and always lived it to the full.

"He taught me so much."

Although he never met his two granddaughters, Mr Nash would be proud of four year old Georgia and seven year old Lenni, who have both been helping their mum with fundraising.

"I want to show my kids the world is your oyster and you can do anything you set your mind to", Ms Nash added.

"My girls know all about charity work and that mummy is off to be Natalie for a week. They want me to do a video each day and keep my eye out for any bears."

Natalie said her partner Lewis Scard will be keeping a close eye on things while she is away on the five day challenge, which will see her camping out under the stars.

The 20-strong group of trekkers has raised nearly £95,000 between them.

She added: "I've been training with First Class Fitness and doing lots of walks.

"The trip is just what I need to get out of my comfort zone and push myself to the limits.

"Not only am I doing this to remember my dad - it's to make me feel alive again and raise lots of money for an amazing charity."

Ms Nash said she wants to thank all involved in the fundraising, as well as brother Danny Nash of Portland Stone Ltd for paying her registration fee for the trip.
