A historic vehicle event will be held in memory of the show's secretary who has died.

Organisers of the Sherborne Historic Vehicle Rally said show secretary Chris MacAdie died after a short illness.

The event, organised by the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles and to be held on Sunday, August 25 during the bank holiday weekend, offers categories for veteran, vintage, and classic pre-1970 cars; pre-1970 light commercial vehicles; and pre-1980 motorcycles and three-wheelers.

Organisers are keeping their fingers crossed for fine weather this year after heavy rain last year decimated the field.

Brian Chant, honorary chairman of the organising committee, said: “The Sherborne HVR is one of the few classic car gatherings where there’s an optional road run of about 40 miles during the morning before the cars line up in static display. Last year, many participants still enjoyed the run despite the rain.

“Even so, we managed to raise £2,300. This year we hope to do far better, especially as this is a tribute to Chris who did so much hard work for good causes in and around Sherborne."

Over the years, more than £50,000 has been raised for charities supported by the Rotary Club of Sherborne Castles. Those wishing to enter vehicles can download entry forms on the event website, returning them to the temporary event secretary Bob Twiggins at 16, Gainsborough Drive, Sherborne, DT9 6DR.
