LOCAL change makers and 250 guests gathered in their best green attire to announce Alina Green and Liam Ulla as the winners of Miss and Mr Dorset 2019.

The pair were handpicked out of more than 200 applicants and dazzled judges at The Hilton Bournemouth with their upcycled eco outfits, ethical vision speeches and performances at the final event to win an ambassadorship with We Do Ethical Living.

The contest, which has been running since February, has seen contestants champion green living in a bid to make Dorset more sustainable for future generations, with finalists using social media to encourage locals to be more eco-socially minded.

Mr Dorset winner, entrepreneur Liam Ulla, 25, said: “It is such an honour to be able to use my platform to make a positive change to the world and our futures. I can’t wait to work with Kelly Levell over the next year and make some really great changes to the community.”

Newly crowned Miss Dorset, fashion design student Alina, 20, said: “I am so excited to be the new Miss Dorset, there were some amazing finalists this year so I am so shocked that I have won, I can’t wait to start enforcing change in Dorset.”

The new beauty king and queen will work as ambassadors for Kelly Levell’s not-for-profit organisation We Do Ethical for the year to help stop fast fashion. The duo will attend charity events, award ceremonies and business galas and they will go on to raise the profile of the county on a national level by competing at the Mr & Miss England finals.

Kelly said: “I wanted everyone attending the evening to take a stand and wear green to symbolise raising awareness of fast fashion. The impact our fashion and textiles industry has on our environment is horrendous, being second to oil for pollution of our planet.

“It’s been ten years since I made the discovery, and nothing has changed. I am so excited to start working with Alina, Liam and all our fantastic finalists on the Wear It Green campaign over the next year. I love to support them all in creating positive changes to the things that they care about.”
