A man who allegedly threw stones at a person outside a supermarket was also thought to have a knife, it was reported.
Dorset Police was called to reports of an assault at 1.36pm in Sherborne yesterday (June 22).
The incident is said to have occurred near Waitrose.
Officers searched the area looking for a man who had allegedly been throwing stones at a person. The victim claimed that he might also be in possession of a knife.
A police dog unit was deployed as part of the search and members of the public helped.
A man was arrested just before 2pm and taken into police custody.
A spokesman for Dorset Police said: “Sherborne officers would like to thank those members of the public who assisted.”
