A man has been banned from driving for 20 months after being convicted of drink driving for the second time in 15 years.

Weymouth Magistrates Court heard Kevin Peter Tann, 55, was arrested on May 31 for driving under the influence of alcohol on Sandford Road in Wareham.

Lee Turner, prosecuting, said at about 8.40pm on May 31, police officers noticed a Volkswagen Transporter van driving erratically and made the driver stop with blue lights.

The driver, Tann, gave a positive breath test sample and was found to have 83 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath. The legal limit is 35 micrograms.

The court heard that Tann had had a disagreement with an old friend and had gone to see another friend after he had been drinking.

He admitted driving while above the limit when he appeared at court.

Magistrates heard he had a previous conviction for drink driving in 2004 and had completed a drink driving awareness course.

Tann, of Palmerston Road, Upton, Poole, was fined £161 and ordered to pay costs of £85 as well as being disqualified from driving for 20 months.

He was given the option of completing the drink driving awareness course again as sufficient time had passed since his previous course. Magistrates said they hoped Tann would learn something from the course this time.
