IN 1944 I was 16 years of age and remember the arrival of the American 1st Division (The Big One), prior to their departure for invasion of France, via Omaha Beach.
Weymouth was alive with young American serviceman who brought lots of life into the town, good humour with good manners and kindness.
I personally have the utmost respect for these young men, many who lost their lives on Omaha Beach.
Reading in the Dorset Echo your report on heroes honoured at Portland.
Why on why did Weymouth not support a significant service of Remembrance at the memorial on the esplanade?
I am truly dismayed with the non-action of the Town Council.
