A teenager from Weymouth said she was ‘delighted’ to meet the Duchess of Cambridge at a photography workshop.

Chloe Cooper, aged 18, was invited to a workshop held by charity Action for Children and the Royal Photographic Society.

Chloe, who is being supported by Action for Children, brought her volunteer mentor, Alison Chant, along with her to the workshop, held in Surrey.

The pair got to meet the Duchess of Cambridge, who is a patron of both Action for Children and the Royal Photographic Society.

Chloe said: “It was such a delight and a memory I won’t be forgetting soon.

“I was a little bit nervous, but she calmed me down, bless her. She was so welcoming and warming. I showed her a handful of photographs, which she flicked through and commented on how good and detailed they looked. She told me to keep doing it and take it up as a hobby.”

During the workshop the Duchess of Cambridge explored camera techniques with children aged between nine and 18 supported by the charity.

Some of the children already had an interest in photography whilst for many others it was their first opportunity they had to have a go.

Miss Chant, who also works as a teacher at Atlantic Academy on Portland, got involved with Action for Children through its Independent Visitors service, which is based in Dorchester.

She said: “We both felt very honoured to have the opportunity to meet Duchess of Cambridge. She came across as a lovely, genuine, down-to-earth person, who cares for young people and Action for Children.

“She asked about the Independent Visitor project, that I’m a part of, and the impact it has on young people. I spoke to her about her recent appearance on the balcony at Trooping the Colour and said what a delight it was to see Prince Louis.”

She added: “I find it very rewarding to work with young people like Chloe, who is an absolute delight to be with.”

This year Action for Children is celebrating its 150th anniversary.

Action for Children CEO Julie Bentley said: “This charity first began changing the lives of disadvantaged children 150 years ago and we are delighted the Duchess is helping us mark our special anniversary. Today we continue that work to support children because our vision is that every child has a safe and happy childhood, which we know is so important to the Duchess.”
