A dog and its owner were rescued after they got stuck on a ledge on Portland yesterday.

The dog had fallen on to a ledge near Red Crane and had injured its front left paw.

Its owner had tried to rescue the dog herself but it was slippery and she was only able to reach so far.

At about 2pm the Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team was sent to the scene and used an animal rescue bag to get the dog off of the ledge.

They then helped the lady back up to safe grounds and reunited the owner with her dog.

She said she was going to take the dog to a local vet for a check-up.

A spokesperson for Portland Bill CRT said: "If your dog becomes stuck or falls on the cliffs, please do not try to rescue it yourself. Call 999 ask for Coastguard."
