A church in Crossways held a summer fete the day before its fourth birthday.

St Aldhelm’s Church held its summer fete on Saturday, June 22 in the field of Frome Valley First School.

The aim of the fete was to raise money for the maintenance of the church and its general upkeep.

More than a thousand pound was raised as a result.

Will Spracklen, licensed lay minister at St Aldhelm’s Church, said: “We were all praying for perfect weather and we couldn’t have asked for better.

“It was the best day for days around. When the sun shines it really raises the atmosphere of everything.

“The local community did really well in supporting it. One of the reasons we hold the fete is to bring the local community together.

“We met people who lived down the road who we had never met before. We also had a lot of local groups come along - The Friends of Crossways Library, were there, the youth centre was also represented there.

“We raised over £1,000 which isn’t bad for four hours work, although many hours go into organising the event.”

Before the church, which belongs to the Church of England was erected, the congregation used to worship at the youth centre.

The community celebrated four years since the church was built on the Sunday after the fete.
