Eleven Dorset pubs have made it onto a prestigious list of the country's best inns, taverns and foodie destinations.

The AA launches its revamped Pub Guide 2020 today, which lists the top 2,000 pubs in the UK for food, drink, atmosphere and accommodation, according to AA inspectors.

It offers an in-depth guide to the country's pub scene by county with a detail description of each pub, from directions and opening times to whether the pub is child or dog friendly.

It also gives an insight into the pub's real ale, real cider and wine by the glass offerings.

The spotlight is on west and north Dorset in the guide, as no pubs from the Weymouth, Portland and Dorchester area made the cut.

The Dorset pubs which have made it onto the list are:

* Stapleton Arms, Buckhorn Weston

* The Anchor Inn, Seatown

* The Cock & Bottle, East Morden

* The Acorn Inn, Evershot

* The Museum Inn, Farnham, near Blandford

* The Cricketers, Iwerne Courtney or Shroton

* Three Horseshoes Inn, Powerstock

* The Kings Arms, Sherborne

* The Greyhound Inn, Sydling St Nicholas

* The Langton Arms, Tarrant Monkton

* The Rose and Crown Inn, Trent

Of the 2,000 pubs included in the guide, there are 500 ‘Pick of the Pubs’ entries, representing the best AA-recommended pubs in each region as selected by the AA’s inspectors, editorial team, and reader suggestions.

An AA spokesman said: "While pub numbers have decreased in the UK since the Guide launched in 1998, the quality of the UK’s pub scene is better than ever, with a record-number of pubs included in the Guide this year.

"In addition to the pub listings, The Pub Guide 2020 includes articles on the latest trends in the pub and bar scene, such as the rising popularity of spirits, as well as details of the winners of the new AA Inn of the Year and the annual AA Pub of the Year awards, recognising the best pubs in England, Scotland and Wales."

The Pub Guide 2020 will be available online and in bookstores from today.
