A MAN who was allegedly caught driving a Porsche at 155 miles per hour along a Dorset bypass is due to go on trial today.
If Daniel Sweeney-Hutt is convicted of the offence, it will be the highest speed every recorded by police in the county.
The defendant, who is 29 and lives in Lake Avenue in Hamworthy, was allegedly caught on the A35 Puddletown Bypass on March 19 this year. The speed limit along the stretch is 70mph.
He denies the charge and a trial is listed to take place at Poole Magistrates' Court this afternoon.
It is alleged that Sweeney-Hutt was caught driving at speed by Dorset Police's No Excuse team.
Currently, the fastest speed recorded on a Dorset road was when Brendan John Matthews, 28 and of Wyke Road, Weymouth, was allegedly clocked by police travelling at 152mph on the A35 at Puddletown. However, when Matthews appeared at court, he accepted a maximum speed of 140mph. He received an 18 week suspended prison sentence.
