A MOTHER and daughter from Weymouth will walk 100 kilometres in memory of their son and brother, Nicky White.

Nicky died aged 15 following a struggle with cystic fibrosis and this year marks the 30th year since he passed away.

His mother, Sylvia White, 63 and from Fleet, said she wants to raise money to support families going through what she had to 30 years ago.

Mrs White said: "This year it is 30 years since Nicky died. He was the bravest and most determined child I have ever known who even through his illness was always so loving and considerate to others.

"I wish to honour this love and bravery by raising as much money as I can to help other young people, so that other families don't have to face the pain that we have had to learn to live with."

Sylvia and her daughter, Elaine Pearson, will be doing the Thomas Path Challenge on the weekend of September 7-8 in aid of the Cystic Fibrosis Trust.

The challenge involves walking 100 kilometres from Putney Bridge, along the River Thames, to Henley on Thames.

It is an organised group walk in which anyone can sign up to raise money for their chosen charity.

"People are still dying far too young from cystic fibrosis," said Sylvia, "so I am going to try and raise as much money as I can to help support these young people and their families."

Elaine Pearson, 42 and from Wyke Regis, said: "I'm supporting mum raising money so that other families won't have to go through the same thing as we have.

"I love to run anyway and I just ran 100 kilometres from Weymouth to Exmouth for Weldmar Hospicecare in memory of my friend who died from stomach cancer.

"It will be nice to just support mum to keep it going. It will be emotional for her."

Sylvia has already raised more than £300 of her £1,000 target. To donate to her fundraising efforts, go to https://tinyurl.com/y64wgt8q
