A MAN was given a community order and a fine after assaulting his grandmother in her home.

Jacob Oliver Clarke, 20, admitted common assault on his 65-year-old grandmother, Ruth Clarke.

Charles Nightingale, prosecuting, told Weymouth Magistrates Court how the defendant had been living with his grandmother at her home, but circumstances changed and she asked him to leave.

The court heard Clarke was collecting some of his belongings when things escalated, with Clarke swearing at his grandmother before hurling food and his belongings at her.

He said Clarke also picked up a knife and started waving it around in front of her before eventually leaving.

In a statement read out to the court, Mrs Clarke said she loved her grandson and wanted him to get help. Clarke was given a community order of 12 months, including 30 days rehabilitation requirement.

He was fined £40, ordered to pay £85 costs and a £30 victim surcharge. A restraining order, in which he can initiate no direct or indirect contact with his grandmother, was also granted by the court.
