A man who was kayaking near Portland Bill late at night sparked a response from emergency services.

Portland Bill Coastguard Rescue Team was called to reports of a kayaker in ‘possible difficulty’ on Saturday at 10.19pm.

A spokesman for the coastguard said: “Due to the time of the evening, the first informant stayed at the scene and kept an eye out until the team arrived.

“In this short time the kayaker managed to make his own way to shore. He was a little cold and wet and put into a blanket to keep warm. The team then assisted recovering the kayak back to the casualty’s vehicle, which was being collected by a friend from his start position at Chesil Cove.

“The team then stood down and returned to the station.”
