Weymouth Town Council says its aware of the groups of travellers on council-owned land and is working to resolve the situation.

Yesterday, the Echo reported how two groups of travellers had moved on to land at both Lodmoor Country Park and in Littlemoor.

Five caravans have parked on the events area of the country park, meanwhile, a a caravan moved on to land near Louviers play area in Littlemoor.

A spokesman for Weymouth Town Council said: “We are aware of the travellers at Lodmoor and Louviers and are working with our partners to resolve the situation as soon as possible.”

Dorset Police say they are liaising with the council and partner agencies.

A police spokesman told the Echo: “On Saturday we received reports of one caravan at the car park off Louviers Road in Weymouth.

“We then received a further report of travellers in the events area of Lodmoor Country Park on Preston Beach Road in Weymouth.

“Officers from the local neighbourhood policing team are liaising with the landowners and partner agencies.”

On Saturday, another group of travellers moved on to land at the park and ride at Mount Pleasant, which is owned by Dorset Council.

Police say the group have since left the site.
