A SPECIAL wing for ex-military prisoners and older offenders could be set up in one of the Portland prisons.
Prison’s Minister Robert Buckland is expected to report the progress on the idea when he meets with Dorset police and crime commissioner Martyn Underhill this week.
Mr Underhill has argued for a special ‘supportive’ wing for former armed forces offenders who are sometimes bullied by other inmates and often have different needs than other inmates.
He told the Dorset police and crime panel on Tuesday that the Minister was expected to announce the creation of the wing, but would not restrict it to ex-military inmates, asking for other older prisoners to also be allowed on the wing.
