Dorset motorists travelling east are being warned that slip roads leading to and from the A31 will be closed overnight while roadworks take place.

Highways England contractors will be carrying out drainage and other maintenance works for around three weeks.

It affects sites at Picket Post and Poulner Hill over the border into Hampshire.

The work, part of a year-long programme, is expected to start on Monday, August 5.

A number of slip roads will be closed between 8pm and 6am, including the slip road leading to the westbound carriageway of the A31 at Picket Post.

Also the slip roads leading to and from the eastbound carriageway of the A31 at Picket Post and the slip road leading to the westbound carriageway at the Poulner Hill junction will shut while roadworks take place.

Finally, the slip roads leading to and from the eastbound carriageway at Poulner Hill will also be closed.

The lay-by adjacent to the westbound carriageway between Picket Post and Poulner Hill will be shut 24-7 during the works.

Traffic will be diverted at each location via other junctions of the A31 or Southampton Road.
