A TEENAGER from Weymouth has been banned from the road after testing positive for riding a motorcycle while over the limit for cannabis.

Liam James Dowden, aged 19, of Bohays Drive Wyke Regis, pleaded guilty to having been over the legal limit for cannabis-related substances in his blood.

Weymouth Magistrates Court heard on January 23 of this year, Dowden was riding a motorcycle on Dorchester Road. Police stopped him because they thought he had the wrong 'L' plates on his bike.

The court heard that Dowden admitted to the officers that he had used cannabis in the previous few days.

Tests revealed he had 10 micrograms of Delta-9-Tetrahydrocannibol (THC) in his blood. The legal limit is 2 micrograms.

Dowden told the court he does not usually drink alcohol or smoke cannabis, but he sometimes smokes cannabis at the weekend.

He said that he was not aware that cannabis can stay in a person's system for three days.

Magistrates disqualified him from the road for 12 months.

Dowden was also fined £200 and ordered to pay costs of £85 and a victim surcharge of £30.
