At Weymouth College's Primary College event, Year 6 pupils from local schools continued to enjoy their taster sessions in various vocational and academic subjects.

Junior reporters in the Journalism workshop asked students in other workshops why they chose their options and whether they would consider taking them further.

Bailey and Andi, from St John’s, and Carla and Mary, from St Nicholas & St Laurence, 11, interviewed Hannah and Oliver, 11 and from the same school, in the Bricklaying workshop. They asked them whether they were enjoying their workshop.

They answered: “Yes, because we’re having lots of fun.”

Hannah also said she was considering becoming a builder, having discovered how enjoyable it was.

Afterwards, they spoke to Chester, 10, and Ruby 11, also from the same school, in the Stone Carving workshop.

Ruby hadn’t originally chosen this workshop, but had learnt how to carve a letter into stone.

When asked whether she would have had the chance to do Stone Carving if she hadn’t attended Primary College, Ruby answered: “No, because it’s expensive.”

Jasmine and Sky, from Wyke Regis, and Lois, from St Andrew’s, 11, interviewed Poppy from Wyke Regis and Oliver from St Augustine’s, 11, in the Cook Delicious Food workshop.

Poppy told them: “We’ve made the dough for the pizzas, and we’re putting the toppings on them next.”

Oliver said he’d picked the workshop because he ‘really wanted to do it and it sounded fun.’

They also chatted briefly to Alfie and Michael, both aged 11, from Radipole and St Andrew's in the Sign Language workshop who had fun signing their responses to the students’ questions.

Eleanor and Lois, from St Andrew’s, and Orla and Joanna from St Augustine’s, 11, interviewed Kyle, 11, from Wyke Regis in the Animation workshop. Kyle told them he ‘likes to animate’ and has ‘a passion for computerised Art’. However, he didn’t want to do Animation as a career, just as a hobby; and he’d rather be a professional footballer.

When asked what he’d learnt from the workshop, Kyle responded: “We learnt how to move and animate zombies - it was pretty cool!”
