MEMBERS of a popular Dorset choir sang their hearts out and raised money for a good cause.
Community choir group, Dorset For Singing, which now boasts around 170 members, chose the Dorset Blind Association as its designated charity this year and managed to raise an impressive £1,300 for the organisation.
Members of the Weymouth and Portland branch voted to support the charity, which provides care to blind and partially-sighted people.
Representatives from the Dorset Blind Association were invited to the choir’s rehearsal at All Saints School in Wyke Regis, where a cheque was presented to member, Sam Cole.
DBA Community & Corporate Fundraiser, Gareth Owens, said: “We’re always very humbled when local groups such as Dorset For Singing take it upon themselves to raise funds for us.
“It reinforces the knowledge that what we’re doing as a charity is valued by the Dorset community and they’re happy to get behind us to play a part in making sure we continue our work.”
Choirmaster and director, Ed Hintze, said: “We have very much enjoyed supporting our nominated charity, the Dorset Blind Association. Although our emphasis is on singing for enjoyment, it is great that a bi-product our singing is to raise money and awareness for local and national charities.”
Anybody interested in joining the choir is welcome to turn up to a rehearsal when the new term starts on Wednesday, September 25 – the first session is free. For further information call Jenny, Choir Manager, on 07723 453619.
