A controversial proposal for four homes within the Heritage Coast at Wyke Regis has been withdrawn.

The application attracted around twenty formal objections, including Weymouth Town Council.

The proposal was for the garden of a detached house off South Road, Wyke Regis known as Martleaves Farm House or Swallows Rest Guest House and holiday cottages.

The outline application was for two houses and two bungalows.

According to planning officials the site is outside of the defined settlement boundary and within the Heritage Coast area, although an agent for the applicant argued that the classification is historic with the site now part of a built-up area.

Planning permission has previously been given north of the house to replace existing stables and a barn with four homes. To the west of the house is a 14 hectare site leading towards the sea which has permission for touring caravans and tents.

Weymouth town council planning committee and many of the individual objectors said that to protect the environment the scheme should be refused.
