A man had to be carried by stretcher after hurting his ankle at a beauty spot.

The incident happened on the steps at Durdle Door yesterday (Monday, July 15).

A spokesman from Lulworth Coastguard Rescue Team said: “The second tasking of the day saw the team paged by Solent Coastguard Operations Centre and deployed to Durdle Door along with our flanking team Kimmeridge Coastguard to assist the ambulance service who had taken reports of a man with an ankle injury on the steps at Durdle Door.

“With a lengthy wait for an ambulance and after some immediate first aid from a first aider from Lulworth Estate, it was decided that the man was able enough to try to hop with help up the steps.

“After some difficult hops, it was clear that the best way to get the man to the coastguard rescue vehicle would be to stretcher him the rest of the way.

“The man arrived via stretcher at the coastguard rescue vehicle and was then driven to the top of the track and back into his family’s car.

“with the man on his way to hospital the team stood down.”

A spokesman for South Western Ambulance Service confirmed they were called to reports of someone who had fallen at 1.28pm.

But they stood down before arrival as they weren't needed.
