ONE of Weymouth’s historic quayside pubs, the Old Rooms Inn, is to have a revamp.
Planning permission is being sought for an external and internal make-over at the Cove Row premises.
Owners Greene King say the building has become ‘tired’ and needs a refurb’ which they say will be in keeping with the existing building and the area.
Their planned overall refurbishment will include; new planters, re-cladding an existing fence with new feather edge boards, altering and adapting the existing bar servery, creating a new door opening, the removal of an existing modern screen and installation of a new fixed seat.
Some walls in the bar servery area will be removed and new walls added to create a new means of access to the glass wash area and to extend the existing back bar counter
The building was originally a private home then was used as the Assembly Rooms until 1785 when new ones were built. The Duke of Gloucester is said to have taken tea there in 1771 during a visit to the area.
Public comments are invited by the Dorset Council website until August 10th . The application is expected to be decided at officer level under delegated powers.
