THE A31 was closed at Winterbourne Zelston following a reportedly serious crash.
Two cars were involved in the collision, which police were called to at around 5pm last night.
Motorists were being advised to avoid the area if possible.
The road was closed between Bere Regis and the A350 Roundhouse Roundabout at Sturminster Marshall.
A spokesperson for Dorset Police said one person was injured in the crash, but their injuries are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
A recovery vehicle later removed the silver Citroen and blue Audi involved in the crash.
There were reported delays on the A35 from Bere Regis to Morden Park Corner as traffic diverted. It was also congested on the B3075 southbound.
