THOUSANDS are expected to attend a day of insight, displays and activities as Dorset Police opens up its headquarters to the public.

The open day at the base in Winfrith runs from 11am to 4pm tomorrow (Saturday, July 20).

Visitors will have the opportunity to find out about the many teams and departments which make up the force.

There will be representatives from the dog unit, drone unit, traffic unit, safety camera team, neighbourhood policing team, firearms unit, safer schools team, forensics team, search team, marine section, public order unit, ropes team, cyber crime team, rural crime team, 999/101 call handling team, recruitment and volunteering team amd Dorset Police and Crime Commissioner Martyn Underhill.

Various demonstration are also set to take place, including from the police dogs, drone team, ropes team, method of entry officers (chainsawing and knocking doors down), as well as petrol bombs thrown at offices to show how they deal with disorder.

There will also be an opportunity to take on the role of detective, with an activity involving evidence and solving crime with the crime scene investigators.

People can also try on some police uniform and equipment and shoot paintball guns in the firearms range.

Parking is available in a field adjacent to the headquarters, which will be signposted on arrival.
