Police have issued a warning following an attempted scam.
A spokesman for the police force said: “A resident in the area of Newlands in Sherborne had a white male in his 50s knock on her door proclaiming to be from TV licensing.
“The male was smartly dressed and well spoken, he claimed that they did not have a TV licence and then went about trying to obtain their contact telephone number and national insurance details.
“The resident asked the male to leave and no further information was handed over.
“This is believed to be an attempted scam. Please be vigilant and ensure you check the identification of any called to your home.
