20P CHARGE PLAN FOR LOOS
£395,000 to run loos. How is that broken down then....Must be a cost saving there. 50 Shades of Red and White
How about people with prostate conditions, why should they have to pay for having a medical problem when cost savings could have been done by councillors? bargain price
Lots of other places now charge to use toilets, providing they keep them clean I don't mind paying. If it generates some income then surely that will offset some (but not all) of the costs of the maintenance which will hopefully include a thorough cleaning programme! Lanedor
You'd need 18 customers per hour every hour just to cover basic wage costs. Do you think the loos at Bowleaze, the Nothe or even Greenhill gets anything like that even in summer? Tobermory
Hardly forward thinking to be considering coin operated equipment that will last for up to 14 years when contactless card payments are already replacing cash transactions. If the projected income is based on the number of people using currently free facilities, then future numbers will almost certainly fall because people simply don't have the necessary coin to effect entry. Might help the footfall into stores such as Debenhams though! Dumbpuss
So let me get this right, the council want to install charging machines in the toilets and after installation, maintenance, collection and auditing costs it is going to make a loss. So charging for these facilities is not going to reduce the running costs of the public toilets.
Where do these people get their business acumen from? Tarka
Population of W&P - 66,000. 395,000/66,000 - £6 or 50p per month. Question: Is it worth it? Is it a non issue? StrangebuTrue
Sounds like a backward step. London stations have just removed charges as they annoyed people. Will encourage people to not use the facilities especially as people don't carry cash much these days. Surely costs better off being factored into council tax/ business rates? paulst
