CCTV images have been released by police after a wallet was stolen at a supermarket.

The incident occurred at around 11.50am on Friday, June 14 at the Waitrose store at Chantry Fields in Gillingham.

It is believed two men watched the victim, a woman aged in her 70s, as she paid for items and then one of them approached her to ask for directions.

When the woman got home she realised her wallet had been taken from her handbag. The wallet contained £120 in cash as well as her debit card.

Three attempts were subsequently made to withdraw cash using the card from cash machines in Shaftesbury that same day.

Police have released CCTV images of a man who is believed to be a suspect.

Police Community Support Investigator Kayleigh Hole, of North Dorset police, said: “We have made a number of enquiries into this incident and have obtained CCTV images of one of the suspects.

“Our efforts to identify him have so far been unsuccessful and I am now issuing the images in the hope that someone will recognise him.

“I would also urge members of the public to make sure they shield their PIN from others when paying for items and keep their handbags close and secure at all times.”
