A 10-year-old girl has had 16 inches of her hair chopped off to help make wigs for children and young people with hair loss.

Aimée-Lee Bell from Weymouth, has been growing her hair for the last three years, so she could cut and donate it to the Little Princess Trust.

She finally had her hair cut by Claire Fry of Mera-Ki Hair Salon in Poundbury.

This is the second time Aimée has donated her hair to the Little Princess Trust and she has inspired her younger sister Bella to do the same when she gets older.

Aimée’s mum, Carly Bell, said: “We’re very proud to be raising such kind, caring considerate children with good hearts.

“Aimée has Juvenile Rheumatoid Arthritis and needs to visit the hospital for regular check-ups and clinics.

“She’s seen lots of poorly children which made her more determined than ever to persevere with growing her hair.

“She’s a very sensitive young girl, who’s been through a lot, but she knows that there are many people worse off than her and is happy to do her bit to help.”

She added: “Aimée absolutely loves her new hair style, we cannot thank Claire enough for her precision and care yesterday. Aimée’s long hair was getting very hot and heavy so she is over the moon to be able to just brush it through, give it a shake and it’s done. She has been smiling constantly since leaving Mera-Ki.”

Aimée has managed to raise £300, including both her recent haircut and her previous haircut, which will also go towards the Little Princess Trust.

Mrs Bell said: “When I asked Aimée originally what she thought would be a good target she suggested £50.I told her we knew lots of wonderful, generous people who would all be happy to help donate to this fantastic cause and we agreed first time around that maybe £100 would be a reasonable amount and a realistic target. We then raised £230 from that haircut.

“This time round we agreed to a target of £150 as it seemed achievable considering the previous amount which had been raised, we have already raised £165 beating that target and hopefully it will continue to grow.

“Aimée is very proud of what she has been able to do for the charity and that she has been able to raise such a substantial amount of money.”
