Two Dorset residents are in the running for the UK's top farming awards.

Emily Gascoigne, who farms at Synergy Farm Health, Evershot, has been selected as one of the three finalists for the Livestock Adviser of the Year award at the 2019 Farmers Weekly Awards.

She is a specialist sheep vet and consultant who works with lowland flocks.

At the same time, Will Frost of Childhay Manor has been shortlisted for the Dairy of the Year award.

He looks after a 2,500 herd of goats.

If either of them win their respective awards, then they will be in the running for the overall Farmer of the Year award.

The Farmers Weekly Awards have now been running for 15 years. They are judged by a series of experts, industry specialists, and previous award winners.

The winners of the awards will be announced at a ceremony in London's Grosvenor House on October 3.

A spokesman said: "The Farmers Weekly Awards night has become a highlight in the farming social calendar. There are 14 categories spanning the full breadth of the farming industry; from contractor to farm manager; sheep to arable and diversification to dairy."

Other categories up for award include Arable Adviser, Arable Farmer, Dairy Farmer, Sheep Farmer, Pig Farmer, Poultry Farmer, Mixed Farmer, Young Farmer, Diversification Farmer, Grassland Farmer, Contractor, Beef Farmer, Farm Manager, Lifetime Achievement, and Farming Champion.
