FIVE people were stranded at sea on a yacht in the middle of thick fog two miles off of Portland and had to be rescued.

On Monday, July 22 at about 7.45pm the Weymouth lifeboat was launched after receiving a call from Solent Coastguard of a yacht in need of assistance.

The yacht was travelling from Dartmouth to Cowes when it became unable to move through lack of wind. The crew tried to use the engine instead but discovered that it had failed. On top of this they were stuck in the middle of some thick fog.

The lifeboat arrived on scene two miles south-east of Portland Bill at 8.22pm and towed the vessel to Weymouth Harbour, arriving at 10.20pm.
