Residents have been warned to expect power cuts and travel delays as thunderstorms and lightning strikes have been forecast.

The Met Office has placed a yellow weather warning on the county, which means to prepare for disruption.

This warning is in place from 6pm on Tuesday, July 23 to 9am on Wednesday, July 24.

The forecasters have said there is a chance that power cuts could occur and other services to some homes and businesses could be lost.

Lightning strikes, hail and strong winds may cause damage to property.

Driving conditions may be affected by spray, standing water and/or hail, leading to longer journey times by car and bus.

The Met Office has advised people to seek shelter before a thunderstorm and to avoid using phones, taps and sinks during a thunderstorm.

Further advice is available on the Met Office website.
