A COUPLE who have been holidaying in Burton Bradstock for over half a century received a surprise on their 56th visit to the village.

Mr and Mrs Uthoff from Cologne, Germany, said they fell in love with Cliff Farm, a traditional farmhouse, during their first visit, when Mrs Uthoff’s sister was an au pair in the village.

Since then they have returned every year, bringing with them their children and grandchildren.

Mrs Uthoff said: “Having visited Burton Bradstock for many years, we have made so many fond memories of the area.

"I distinctly remember when a colonel would ride his horse past the cottage every day and tip his cap to us, and the local milkman would deliver fresh milk to each house."

To celebrate the couple’s 56th visit, Joy Sangster and Hayley Oats from Dream Cottages turned up at Cliff Farm to surprise the couple, now aged 91 and 86, at the start of their break.

Dream Cottages gifted their five-week holiday this year, along with a bunch of flowers, luxury hamper and a certificate.

As well as the beach walks, local markets and seafood restaurants that the couple enjoy every time they visit, one of their favourite things about the area is the large circle of friends they’ve made over the years – many of whom they’re still in touch with.

“Although we’ve seen many changes to the area over the decades, the charm of the place has remained, and that’s what’s brought us back time and time again", Mrs Uthoff said.

"The cottage has a timeless appeal and my grandchildren love staying here just as much as my children did all those years ago.

“Cliff Farm’s location means we can take in the best of Dorset’s coast and countryside. We can’t imagine staying anywhere else.”

Joy Sanger, managing director of Dream Cottages, said: “We’re over the moon about welcoming Mr and Mrs Uthoff back to Cliff Farm for the 56th year in a row.

"It’s a remarkable story and the cottage really has been a home away from home for the couple for more than half a century.

"Lots of holidaymakers return year after year to take in everything the region has to offer, but there can’t be many people who’ve stayed in the same place for nearly 60 years.”
