A DRAMATIC demonstration of RNLI lifesaving skills unfolded in Newtons Cove as part of Weymouth Lifeboat Week.

Crews from Weymouth's two lifeboats, a team from Wyke Coastguard, and RNLI beach lifeguards demonstrated rescue scenarios as crowds looked on from a vantage point at the Nothe.

The coastguard team descended the ramparts of the Nothe Fort to demonstrate a rope rescue while RNLI Beach lifeguards simulated the rescue of a struggling lone swimmer. Lifeboat crews demonstrated a life raft rescue, followed by the 'rescue' of a jet skier in trouble at sea.

Crowds at the Nothe were entertained by live music from The Speedway Snails and enjoyed a hog roast and licensed bar.

Meanwhile, at the Stone Pier nearby, a fishing competition was being held for under 16 year-olds.

Events for Weymouth Lifeboat Week continue this evening with another live display being performed at Bowleaze Cove from 6.30pm, where there will be entertainment for families.
