Weymouth's summer of steam continued after the town welcomed another historic locomotive.

LNER Class A4 steam locomotive No. 60009 Union of South Africa, built in 1937, hauled a special excursion train from London Victoria yesterday, bringing hundreds of people to the coast for a few hours.

The train departed back to the capital at 4.35pm yesterday. Diesel locomotive Class 47 No. 47802 hauled the train out with the steam locomotive on the rear.

The Dorset Coast Express railtour, one of a number of  steam-hauled excursions to Weymouth this summer, was organised by the Railway Touring Company.

Such excursions give people the opportunity to travel in style on a steam-hauled locomotive and spend some time at the seaside. Travellers can opt to have a four-course dinner on board.

Another steam train is due in on Thursday, August 15 in an excursion from London organised by Steam Dreams.

It is anticipated the locomotive will be LNER B1 Class locomotive No. 61306 Mayflower.
