Weymouth will welcome another special excursion train this weekend.

Steam fans will be disappointed though – this time though it's a diesel-hauled vintage train.

West Coast Railways' The Northern Belle is bringing passengers to the seaside in style tomorrow aboard luxury Pullman coaches in a journey 'evoking the opulence of 1930s rail travel'.

Passengers will be paying £305 (return journey from London) for the experience.

It will be hauled by Class 57 diesel locomotives, with one at each end of the train.

The train departs London Victoria tomorrow morning, passing Wareham at 1.23pm Wool at 1.31pm, Moreton at 1.36pm, Dorchester South at 1.43pm, and arriving into Weymouth at 1.55pm.

It leaves Weymouth at 5.01pm passing Dorchester South at 5.14pm. Moreton at 5.21pm, Wool at 5.26pm and Wareham at 5.31pm (all times subject to change).

Promoting the excursion on its website, West Coast Railways says: "Your journey begins as your steward welcomes you on board the Northern Belle vintage train and escorts you to your armchair seat. Elegant tables laid with starched tablecloths, uniquely designed silverware and highly polished glasses complement the luxurious carriages.

"Fine dining is a highlight of every journey, and once you have settled into your seat, a delicious brunch with Bellini is served as we journey to the coast. In the care of your steward, sit back and relax in the convivial atmosphere and enjoy the views from your train window.

"On arrival, spend your time at leisure exploring the elegant seaside town of Weymouth. Take a stroll along the beach, explore the pretty harbour or simply sit and watch the waves roll in.

"After your return to the train, a fine dining dinner with champagne and wine is served as we make our way home. A wonderful way to enjoy the Great British coast."

The next steam train is due to visit on Thursday, August 15 in an excursion from London organised by Steam Dreams.

It is anticipated the locomotive will be LNER B1 Class locomotive No. 61306 Mayflower.
