THE temporary men’s toilets on Weymouth seafront had to be closed after they were vandalised.

The incident is believed to have happened sometime between the evening of Friday, August 2 and the morning of Saturday, August 3.

The public toilets have since been reopened after repairs were carried out.

When the damage was first discovered, a spokesman for Weymouth Town Council said: “Unfortunately due to vandalism, Weymouth Town Council has found it necessary to close the gent’s temporary toilets on the seafront to await repair.

"The issue has been reported to the toilet hire company who will be sending an engineer as soon as practicable to initiate these repairs. Photos have been provided to assist with this. Weymouth Town Council has taken the decision to close the gent’s toilets due to health and safety concerns. The facilities will re-open as soon as possible.”

The criminal damage was reported to Dorset Police on Tuesday.

A police spokesman said: “We were called at 10.24am on Tuesday reporting criminal damage to the public toilets on the Esplanade in Weymouth.

“We are making enquiries, but no arrests have been made at this stage.”

The toilets have now been repaired and were reopened yesterday.
